Just an Average Family

Who wants to share their experiences

How it all Began

I never considered myself an avid traveler. I grew up in a modest home, my father had to work two jobs to make ends meet and my mom saved every penny so we can afford the basic necessities. Our family vacations consisted of an annual road trip down to Los Angeles to visit our cousins, the highlight of my childhood summers. I guess that’s when I started associating travel with fun and family. I’d see magazines of beautiful tropical destinations and yearn to go yet knew I couldn’t really afford it. But I made it a mission to make the most of every trip I make.

Those closest to me know I don’t like the status quo…always want to be different. Everything I do or make I want it to be special. As I was planning my honeymoon, I didn’t want to go to Hawaii, where 90% of people I knew went. I decided to go for Tahiti, at the time a lesser known destination. I shared with many my wonderful experience and looking back I must have referred 5 or more couples to go there instead.

As my family grew, I was on the lookout for places to travel as family. I discovered Great Wolfe Lodge in Charlotte when it was brand new and must have referred at least 20 families there. As this place became well known I got bored and set off on more unique adventures and realized how much time I had put in just to research I decided to create this site and blogs to not only document my trips for memory, but to help others explore a world where perhaps there isn’t enough marketing dollars around it for it to be known, but perfect for someone looking for the most value in their trips.

OVER 20 YEARS OF TRAVELING AND COUNTING

Some of Our Favorite Trips

I wish I thought of this sooner and detailed all my earlier travels. Some details are forgotten over the years but this is where they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

TAHITI, MOOREA, BORA BORA

Where it all began…sorta. We realized how much impact our recommendations were from this trip.

US VIRGIN ISLANDS

Beauty of the Caribbean, with the perks of being US. No need to worry about currency exchange.

ALASKAN CRUISE

We’re usually beachgoers but this was an exception and so glad we went. Nature is beautiful.

DISNEY CRUISE

Compared to mainstream cruiselines, they are on the pricier end, but the experience is better.

TURKS AND CAICOS

Stayed at Beaches Resorts, Owned by Sandals, an All-Inclusive Resort for Families.

WESTERN CARIBBEAN

Went on a Western Caribbean Cruise to ring in the New Year. It definitely wasn’t cheap, but we had more time to enjoy.

About Me

I’m a private person, so you won’t hear mention of my name or many pictures of me on the travels. I grew up in California and moved to Atlanta when I got married so most of my travels are on the eastern region. I worked for a large media company for a third of my life then moved on to other things. I’m a business owner, a housewife, a mom of three, a volunteer, a consultant, a philanthropist, a floral designer, a baker and more depending on the mood. Despite being more well off than my upbringing, my mom’s frugality has rubbed off on me, so while I don’t always look for the cheapest trip, I look for one that gives me the most value for my hard earned money.
